Lazarus has been elected as a Regular Fellow of the American College of Bond Counsel by a unanimous vote of the College's Board of Directors. Bob is currently the only attorney from the State of Mississippi to be elected to this honorary College. The American College of Bond Counsel is a national group of approximately 200 experienced bond counsel organized for the purpose of promoting the high standards of professional and ethical responsibility in the practice of municipal finance. Membership is exclusive and is by invitation only. Members must have demonstrated a career as a distinguished municipal law practitioner for a period of not less than 10 years and undergo an extensive nominating process by the existing members before election by the Board of Directors of the College.

Watkins Ludlam Winter & Stennis is pleased to announce that Andrew J. Gipson has been selected by the Simpson County Development Foundation to participate in the 2006-2007 class of Leadership Simpson County, a nine-month leadership program devoted to planning for the future of Simpson County.  Participants in this program work to implement economic development, educational, or other projects beneficial for the county and its residents.  The program concludes with a retreat to be held at the Trent Lott Leadership Institute in Oxford, Mississippi.

A Mississippi trial court recently issued a significant ruling in a major corporate income tax case tried by this firm.  The case, AT&T Corp. v. Mississippi State Tax Commission , addressed the means by which the State taxes corporate affiliated groups and their intercompany dividends, and the favorable ruling could present refund opportunities for such companies.  FULL STORY
