Watkins Ludlam Winter & Stennis Commits to Downtown Location

The Shareholders of Watkins Ludlam Winter & Stennis, one of the leading law firms in the Southeast, have voted to relocate their corporate headquarters and largest office to a planned development at the corner of Lamar and Capitol streets next to One Jackson Place.

Tommy Shepherd, the firm’s CEO, cited proximity to courts and state government as well as the firm’s 100 year history of being in downtown as some of the driving factors in the decision. “We evaluated a number of very strong proposals from local developers and decided that the new state-of-the-art office building to be located at the corner of Lamar and Capital gives us the best opportunity to serve our clients throughout the tri-county metro area, the state, and the region.”

The firm has three offices throughout Mississippi including Jackson, Olive Branch and Gulfport. With more than 70 attorneys and a total staff in excess of 150, the firm is one of the state’s largest law firms. Founded in 1905, the firm’s headquarters have been located in Jackson since its inception. Former Governor William Winter, who is a Shareholder and senior member of the firm said, “For more than 100 years this law firm has been an integral part of the business and professional life of the Metro Jackson area. We have grown and prospered here, and we believe that our future success lies in continuing to enjoy the obvious advantage that comes from being located in the heart of Mississippi’s capital city.”

The new facility which is being developed by Parkway Properties of Jackson, a New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) listed company, will be completed in 2008. Parkway is scheduling a joint press conference for Monday October 16th at 10:00 AM to unveil the plans for the development. Employees from Watkins Ludlam Winter & Stennis as well as those from other companies who will be located in the building will be on hand to celebrate the unveiling.

According to the Chairman of the Board of Watkins, Ludlam Winter & Stennis, Alveno Castilla, “This is truly an exciting development in the life of our law firm. We look forward to continuing to be an integral part of the commercial and governmental nerve center of Mississippi.”
